Dr Sean Tan
Dr Sean Tan is a general and academic cardiologist. He is interested in all aspects of cardiology, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, and cardiac risk assessment. He also has a keen interest in the prevention of cardiovascular disease, in particular the emerging field of Cardio-Oncology which focuses on the cardiovascular health of patients with cancer.
Sean graduated from Monash University in 2014 with First Class Honours and completed his cardiology training at MonashHeart, Frankston Hospital and Bendigo Hospital. During his training, he was awarded the John Burgess Award for Clinical Excellence at Monash Health.
Sean is currently undertaking a PhD through Monash University and the Victorian Heart Hospital, evaluating cardiovascular risk identification and prevention in patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors for cancer. He is the recipient of the prestigious National Health and Medical Research Council and National Heart Foundation joint postgraduate scholarship and has also been recognised with an Emerging Researcher Fellowship and a Clinical Academic Fellowship from Monash Health.
Sean is also an avid educator and is the Monash University Medical Student Program Advisor for the Victorian Heart Hospital. He was twice awarded the Monash University Excellence in Clinical Supervision Award for medical student teaching in 2020 and 2022. Outside of work, Sean enjoys travelling and spending time with his family. He is a passionate sports fan and is an avid Liverpool FC supporter.
