Atrial Fibrillation Ablation

An atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation is a minimally invasive medical procedure that delivers either hot or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart and block the abnormal electric impulses that lead to AF. This procedure is often recommended when other treatments have not worked, but may be recommended as a first treatment option for some patients. The procedure is performed in hospital under sedation or general anaesthetic using catheters that are placed in the heart from the groin.
