EP Studies

An electrophysiological (EP) study is an invasive diagnostic medical procedure that is performed to understand how electricity spreads within the heart. EP studies are often recommended for the investigation of heart rhythm disorders and are conducted as day case procedures in hospital using local anaesthetic and sedation. The procedure is performed using the blood vessels in the groin and places catheters in the heart to measure electrical activity. The procedure may also involve infusion of a medication that helps our electrophysiologist determine the type of heart rhythm disorder.
