Dr Sriram Rao

Dr Sriram Rao is an academic cardiologist and heart failure specialist. He sees patients with all forms of cardiovascular disease, but has a specific interest in those with heart failure.

Sri graduated from Monash University in 2007 and completed his advanced training in cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, the largest heart transplant program in Australia. After serving on faculty there, he subsequently completed a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then worked at the Georgetown University Medstar Washington Hospital Center, one of the largest heart failure and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) programs in the world.

He returned to Australia in 2023 and is currently the Deputy Director and head of Heart Failure services at the Victorian Heart Hospital and Monash Health.

Sri has a strong research interest, having submitted his PHD through the University of New South Wales – during which time he was the recipient of the WG Walker Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship. He is also the principal investigator on a number of clinical trials in the heart failure space.
