
Dr Gavin Manmathan
Dr. Gavin Manmathan, a compassionate and caring interventional cardiology consultant from the UK, where he is dual-accredited in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine. He is dedicated to helping patients understand and take control of their heart health. Dr. Manmathan takes a personal and thoughtful approach to care, ensuring patients feel heard, supported, and confident throughout their journey.
He has a special interest in coronary heart disease, preventative cardiology, managing high blood pressure, and treating heart failure. Dr. Manmathan believes in collaborating closely with each patient to develop practical, clear, and tailored treatment plans that align with their lifestyle.
Dr. Manmathan completed his medical training at Liverpool University in the UK and his specialist cardiology training at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospital in London. He obtained the European Examination of General Cardiology during this period. Subsequently, he underwent a two-year training program in his sub-specialty of Interventional Cardiology at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, the largest cardiac centre in Europe. After completing this, he relocated to Australia to work at the new Victorian Heart Hospital, to gain further exposure to more complex cases and intravascular imaging using infra red technology. During his tenure, he completed another two-year fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, which culminated in a career total of over 2,000 diagnostic angiograms and more than 1,000 stent insertions for heart attacks, heart attack prevention, and treating symptoms of angina. In addition, he also became a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and provides general cardiology consultations.
Dr. Manmathan, is actively involved in ongoing research and education, ensuring that his practice remains informed by the latest advancements in cardiology. He has presented his work at prestigious national and international conferences in Australia, Europe, and America.
He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Intercalated Neuroscience and Neuropsychology from King’s College London and is currently pursuing a PhD in Cardiovascular Science at University College London.
Dr. Manmathan completed a 3-year clinical research fellowship at the Royal Free Hospital, where he participated in significant national and international clinical trials that have significantly impacted the field of cardiology. His research involved the use of biomarkers, proteomics, echocardiograms, CT coronary angiograms, and cardiac MRI scans to detect any evidence of cardiovascular disease in healthy, low-risk, and asymptomatic individuals living with HIV. He then compared these findings to healthy controls.
In his free time, Dr. Manmathan enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, traveling, and exploring new cultures and locations. He is a sports enthusiast, particularly fanatical about football (soccer), and supports Liverpool FC. Before a skiing injury and subsequent knee operations ended his competitive sporting aspirations, he engaged in various sports such as hockey, rugby, cricket, and athletics. However, he has since taken up cycling as a new passion.
