Dr Colin Machado
Dr Colin Machado is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist with expertise in cardiac rhythm management. He has a keen interest in diagnostic and therapeutic management for all forms of SVT including atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia and arrhythmias associated with cardiac inherited diseases.
Colin also carries out cardiac implantable electronic device implant, interrogation and programming. These include pacemakers, defibrillators and CRT devices.
Colin is currently a cardiologist and electrophysiologist at Monash Heart and also sees and performs procedures for patients at Holmesglen private, Jessie McPherson private and St John of God Berwick hospitals.
Colin completed his undergraduate training at Manipal Academy of Higher Education in India following which he undertook a clinical observership program in cardiology at Basildon and Thurrock hospitals in the UK. He then carried out his post graduate training in internal medicine and cardiology in Victoria Australia, training at Launceston general, Geelong, Warrnambool, Ballarat, Western and Monash health.
His passion for cardiology was such that he pursued a year of imaging fellowship at Monash to better his understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology through 2D, 3D echocardiography including transesophageal echocardiography and cardiac CT as a segue to his love of cardiac electrophysiology completing 3 years of fellowship training at Monash health which is a high volume centre for cardiac rhythm management. This includes electrophysiology study and cardiac ablation procedures for SVT, AF and VT using 3D mapping technologies as well as implantation and management of cardiac electronic devices including pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation devices.
He is actively involved in recruiting, educating and managing patients for various single centre and multi-centre trials conducted through Monash Heart.
Colin is keen on seeing any patient that needs assessment of arrhythmias or symptoms suggestive of the same and is strong on his principle of educating the patient on their condition, however simple or complex along with integrated care with their general practitioners/physicians. He will see these patients through the arrhythmia clinic run through the practice.
When not at work you will find Colin either playing some sort of sport with his son or at the gym, boxing or at MCG/GMHBA cheering loudly for the CATS with his son
