Dr Harsh Thakkar
Dr Harsh Thakkar is a general and academic cardiologist. He is interested in all aspects of cardiology, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and cardiac risk assessment. He has a keen interest in acute coronary syndrome and coronary interventions.
Harsh completed his undergraduate medical training in Mumbai, India following which he moved to Australia to complete his specialist training. He undertook Advanced training in General and Acute Care Medicine at Eastern Health, Melbourne prior to undertaking advanced training in Cardiology at Royal Hobart Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital and MonashHeart, Monash Health.
To further pursue his passion for coronary interventions, he undertook a subspeciality training in cardiac CT, coronary interventions, and structural heart disease at Royal Melbourne Hospital. He is currently pursuing a combined PhD and coronary interventional fellowship via Monash University and Victorian Heart Hospital, evaluating coronary physiology and coronary blood flow in patients with severe aortic stenosis. He also has a keen interest in complex coronary interventions and ECMO and plans to undertake further subspeciality training.
Harsh is also an avid educator and holds teaching positions through Monash University and is currently a Clinical Academic Fellow teaching medical students at Monash Medical School. Previously he was an Adjunct Clinical lecturer at University of Tasmania. Outside of work Harsh enjoys travelling and spending time with his young family. He is passionate about cricket and soccer and is an avid FC Barcelona supporter.
