Cardiac Resynchronisation Therapy (CRT)
Cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) is an invasive medical procedure that uses a pacemaker to improve the symptoms of breathlessness that occur when the heart muscle is weak. The CRT procedure is performed in hospital using local anaesthetic and sedation. The CRT device will be placed just under the skin and leads will be placed from the device into the heart, to allow full control of the hearts electrical activity. The CRT device will be personalised both in hospital and during the weeks after the procedure to improve the symptoms of breathlessness.
